5 Things I’ve learnt from University

Hey guys!

Welcome to my first blog post on my website. I will be writing these pretty regularly and will focus them around university and all of my interests.

So, University is advertised as being the best three years of your life. It definitely has its ups but most certainly it has its downs. From living in scuzzy university accommodation, to living with your closest friends, to getting bad grades and getting unexpected amazing grades – university has taught me a lot. These are the top 5 things that I’ve learnt from University!

1. Do You!

EVERYONE at university has been through the realisation that they have no idea what they want to do with their life and it is totally normal. In all honesty, nobody is perfect and doing things that make you happy is the biggest priority. It Is fine to change your initial plans and pursue a career to become a vet instead of a philosopher! It is your life and it is never too late to do something to make you happy.

2. People aren’t all the same as you!

University will test you mentally and you will meet a wide range of different people who you wouldn’t normally mix with in your normal world. Not everyone has the same interests as you and that’s okay. Imagine a world filled with people who all liked the same thing as you? Now that would be boring.

3. Budgeting!

In my first year, I made full advantage of my loan and overdraft and spent it on loads and loads of clothes and that ran out quickly. I’ve learnt over the last three years that saving and budgeting your money is way harder than I thought and some weeks living off of baked beans and tinned meat balls is inevitable.

4. Messy night outs!

From going out once a month to going out three times a week was a shock to the system (especially my liver and head). Everyone has had those nights where they can’t remember where they’ve been or remembered what they’ve done – it’s not just you. Everyone is a mess at university and people thrive off of the uncertainty that the night ahead may bring.

5. Juggling deadlines!April and May are the worst months of the whole year – especially with a dissertation to write! After three years of studying you learn how your brain works and the best way to study for you. For me, it is staying up all night and sleeping during the day. It is backwards but at least my deadlines are met! Trying to do work in a full house of people is sometimes near impossible so staying up late for me is a must.

Throw yourself at everything.

I shall see you soon.
