My (Current) Favourite Movies

Hello!

It would be a bit cliché to say that watching films has been a big part of my life, as many people have experienced this. This only proves my point; that movies can make a great impact on your life and sometimes the way you view things in your own personal life. Of course, Disney and Harry Potter have contributed hugely to my love for films and I still manage to watch at least one of those a week (I am a bit of a geek) but, I also love a variety of other films! So here are my current favourite movies that I think everyone should watch at least once in their lives. Some movies on the list are classics but, some are new and stupendous!

LABYRINTH

Jim Henson’s musical fantasy film starring the one and only, David Bowie is a movie that induced my love for everything fantasy. Around eight years ago or so, my Dad tried to convince me to watch Labyrinth as I have always loved Bowie’s music. At first, I was hesitant and thought ‘Oh, it’s just another bog-standard, old film’, but, ten minutes in I was mesmerised by the gremlins and completely in love with the story line. The plot is somewhat disturbing – consisting of a fifteen-year-old girl searching through a labyrinth because her baby brother was taken by the goblin king (Bowie), but, you learn to love the characters and the way the puppets interact with each other. This movie has been in the top spot of my favourite films for years and I believe it will take something outstanding to replace it.

RED SPARROW

Ballerina Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence), is recruited to ‘Sparrows School,’ a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. This movie is one that I have seen in the last month, again with my father and it is incredible. The film is filled with grit and at moments I felt physically sick. But, there is no escaping the true captivating excellence of Francis Lawrence’s work. It is a definite recommend but, I suggest to not watch if violence isn’t your thing.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Anyone who knows me will know that this is my all-time favourite Disney film and it is unlikely to change. I have always dreamt of being Belle, a girl who loves to read and a bit of a bonkers personality. This film ultimately has a big place in my heart, so will remain in my top favourite films always.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

The excitement for this film to come out last year was a wide-spread feeling across the globe. The film features the first posthumous film performance by Carrie Fisher, who died in December 2016. The film is consequently dedicated to her memory, making the film that much more special for die hard Star Wars fans. The film did receive some backlash and disappointment from fans, but, for me the film excelled itself. I’d even say it was the best film since the original trilogy. The film may not be the most perfect of films but, The Last Jedi speaks for the strength of a united front against imperial aggression. This film is definitely a favourite of mine.

THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

My final, favourite movie is one of my favourite books. After falling in love with the character of Charlie (an anxiety filled teenager), I was very excited to hear the announcement of the film. After first watching the film, I had a lot of questions regarding missing pieces of events that were present in the novel. But, after watching it again for a second time and every time after that I began to forget about those events as they weren’t as important as I once thought. A film that is able to make me cry from the first five minutes, to the last five minutes is a masterpiece. From, sad scenes to extremely happy scenes I loved every part of this film.

I hope you enjoyed my (current) favourite films. I hope I have managed to persuade you to go and watch at least one of these films and if you have seen any of these films, I am extremely happy!
